经济萧条的感言。。。(梁智强)

This article is taken from http://blog.omy.sg/jackneo/archives/1617
Just post here for fun... haha..

Tolong Tolong Letter

With the release of the inflation figure of 6.8 percent, this becomes a relevant reminder…………………….TQ LCTS !

Intro: The first letter was posted last year, in one of the forums I participate in, by a person who goes by the nick “ChinChaiOne” and he named his thread “Tolong Tolong”. It was picked up by other forums, circulated around (even in govt depts) then someone who posed as an official in the PM’s office posted a reply.

OPEN LETTER COFFEE SHOP TALK

From : ChinChaiOne
28-Apr 12:15

Dear Prime Minister,
We citizens of Singapore urge you to PLEASE MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS.
We DO NOT NEED your help.. Every time, you mention HELP, we have to run for cover!!!

Help the poor? Raise GST!

Help traffic flow? Up ERP!

Help passenger service? Up Bus fare/MRT fare!

Help us get taxi? Raise taxi fare!

Help us get good government? Raise Minister and Civil servant salary!

Everytime YOU WANT TO HELP, we all PAY FOR IT!!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU…TOLONG LAH, please, we will HELP OURSELVES, no need your help liao. We DARE NOT ask for help any more!!!

Sir, most honoured sir, I urge you NOT TO HELP Singapore INVEST also!
Everytime your wife invest, we all lose money! Kao liao, kum siah!
Just let us have a dose of bad governance, like recently the Mat Selamat case, like dat….so far, it is ok, your incompetence, we ACCEPT!

PLEASE DO NOT help us have better security! Wait we all kena PAY FOR IT!!
I believe ALL SINGAPOREANS PREFER NOT TO HAVE CRUTCH MENTALITY!
I think it is ok lah, please just take your salary and enjoy life ok?

Thank you thank you,
I am very chin chai one, any how any how, no need to help oso can one.

Following is a reply from the Prime Minister’s Office:

Date: Saturday, 2 August, 2008.

Dear Chin Chai One,

10Q you for your letter. On behalf of the Prime Minister, I am replying to your letter as follows:

As the erected party of Singaporeans, we are here to serve.

We are demon-cratic country, you are master, we gahmen servant, we serve you. You got problems we must help. You say no need our help? That means you’re not Singapore’s master. You say you run for cover? Cannot one, our police will find you.

GST is to help the Gahmen to help yourself. The Gahmen Service Tax is everywhere, you go America also have one, cannot run one.

Traffic very bad, so bad that we have to hold car racing at nite to avoid traffic jam. We believe there is no free lunch like PM’s father say before, you use, you must pay, so Every Road Pay. So you see no ERP cannot one.

Needless to say, passenger service also must pay. The increase in bus fare and MRT and taxi fare are very little already. We foresee world inflation coming: oil, steel, pay of foreign talents, etc, so we have to pay for the service.

You see, many foreign talents come to Singapore . If we don’t pay our ministers well, they will go other countries to be their foreign talents. So must raise salary to keep them. If not, Nathan, Shanmugam, Bala etc will go Indiaand work. Khaw will go Malaysia .. etc etc. Must keep them. To keep them must pay well.

You are right, any help also must pay.

To help yourself? No, it’s illegal. You mean you can build your own MRT? Run your own buses? Drive your Ba-Ong-Chia? Build your own roads? Seow liao!! Every one help himself then how? No social order lah! Ga ga ask for help, we are here to serve you.

We understand some of you have temporary problem. Don’t worry, it is only short term. We must look long term. We must invest long term. Now lose a bit don’t cow beh cow boo, long term! Yes, remember. 30 or 50 years later we will own Swiss banks, US banks, UK properties, maybe even South Pole condominiums. We must tighten our seat belt and bite our false teeth. The future very bright. As long as you continue to support the gahmen 30 to 50 years you will see bright future. So Chiang See Tong a bit lah. Also, investing is very complicated business, not easy. We must pay school fee to learn from advanced countries.

On Selamat’s case, we also must learn our lesson. We encourage life-long-learning. I learn whole life time, you learn whole life, Mr Wong Can’t Sing also whole life learning. It’s actually good. Mr Wong already apologise, don’t force a dog to jump over the wall, the wall may collapse. Old dog cannot jump high also.

Selamat’s case gives us many lessons. We must be on alert, not too complacent. Now every Singaporean know there can be a terrorist among us any time. This is the best self defence education !! PM will give Mr Wong another salary increment for that.

Also now we merge the prisons and detention centre, more space will be available now. We will build it like another IR, Integrated Retention - so those don’t want our service and thinking of doing illegal service will go there. We will pass a new law too, the expenses for stay in that IR will be deducted from your CPF money.

Remember we must be grateful to people who help us — and pay.

I hope I have explained the situation and give you the message clearly. If you still need help, please call my handphone: 9990-6767 , it’s toll-free.

By the way, Mr Chin Chai One, our pioneer Toh Chin Chai already toh long ago. So if you choose to be Chin Chin Chai Chai, you will also Toh.

10Q you again,

Reguards,

AhBeng

A Vision of Students Today (mwesh)

Last few weeks, I attended graduate communication course lecture. The lecture was about "making learning meaningful" and she displayed a youtube clip. I found this video clip very meaningful and would like to share with you:

This video was composed by a distinguished Prof from Kansas US, his nickname in youtube is mwesch. He found that majority of the students did not like go to school however they were keen on learning. What causes this happened? Then he started to do research about education learning and youtube. From the video clip above, it explicitly shows the feeling or opinion about the new generation of students. They spent more times on laptop, internet, gadgets and games rather than the smelly books. Furthermore, they learned more from the internet than lectures. It also reveals poor and unfriendly study environment like the class is too big, lectures did not know student names etc.

Thus teachers/lectures should be more interative to students and makes the class more lively, creating a more friendly study environment. Teachers/lectures should also motivate and inspire students because they are the model of students that influence students most after students' parents. What is your opinion about this video clips?

Other related videos:

This video reveals that technology might help students learn more and effective.

USB3 Super Speed 5Gbps (10x faster than USB2.0

USB3.0 Logo with SuperSpeed

USB (universal serial bus) is one of the most sucessful device that can live up today because of its portablity and low cost. Recently, USB3 specification (Rev 1.0) had been released by www.usb.org in Nov 2008. It is a exciting news which I have been waiting, because I was working with USB design when I was working in Intel. This new USB3 transfer rate is 5Gbps, which is around 10x faster than USB2.0 (480Mbps), and it is dubbed with Super Speed to distinguish with High-Speed in USB2.0. In other words, bulky file sizes like video can be transferred in short period. Besides this, it is also backward compatible to USB2.0 (480Mbps High-Speed) and USB1.1 (12Mbps Full-Speed and 1.5Mbps Low-Speed). In other advantage is that it supports bidirectional transfer as shown in the USB3 stylish logo with two opposite arrows. It employs dual-simplex way to achieve bidirectional transfer.

Pat Gelsinger (Intel’s Senior Vice-President) displayed USB3.0 (source: apcmag.com)

USB3.0 using optical link

Initially USB3.0 used optical link which can easily achieve good signal quality. However, due to higher production cost, it was dropped off. It uses normal electrical cables with one UTP (unshielded twisted pair) and 2 sets of SDP (shielded differential pair).

USB3.0 cable

In order to support bidirectional transfer by dual-simplex structure, USB connector comprises 5 additional pins. They are Rx differential plus and minus pins, Tx differential plus and minus pins, and ground drain pins sitting at the middle of of Tx and Rx links as shown in the diagram below. This ground drain pin serve as current return path to Tx and Rx links and provides sheilding effect between Tx and Rx. Of course, due to backward compatible, it also contains the old version pins which are D+, D-, Power and Ground pins. They are 9 pins in total. (therefore backward compatible is kinda costly)

USB3.0 type A connector

Apart from that, USB3 no longer implements polling technique as in USB2.0. Polling techniques is like the USB host controller is always asking or checking for data at the down stream (mainly because USB is host initiative). It generates some traffic, therefore power consumption cannot be reduced althought in idle mode. USB3 uses asynchronous traffic flow resulting in power saving in idle mode.

In the physical layer, it uses 8B10B coding and AC coupling as in PCIe. Some people said USB3.0 just like a mini PCIe version. There is a clock and data recovery specification to be complied. Besides this, it requires to support spread spectrum clocking SSC due to EMI concerns.

As in the electrical signalling, Tx and Rx employ current-mode driver with deemphasis requirement. The Tx has two modes, they are full-swing mode and low-power mode. In the low-power mode, the Tx can allow to send low swing to reduce power consumption.

For more information, you could download the specification from www.usb.org

Direction to Nirvana Memorial Park Semenyih

Qing Ming Festival 清明节 is coming very soon, usually falls on around 4th or 5th of April. This blog provides a simple direction to this auspicious Nirvana Memorial Park Semenyih (士毛月富贵山庄).

The google map below shows the simplest and the fastest way (min toll) from Jalan Loke Yew (pointA) to Nirvana Memorial Park (pointB). Take the Kajang-Cheras highway from Jalan Loke Yew, passing two Cheras Tolls, and driving toward Kajang/Semenyih. At the end of Kajang-Cheras highway, do not exit to Kajang, because Kajang usually has heavy traffic. In other words, just drive straight toward Saujana Impian / Semenyih sign board. You will pass through Tesco at the right hand side and you are now in the Kajang-Semenyih bypass road (no toll). After that you will pass Giant at the left hand side. Just go straight until you see a sign board to exit Semenyih to the Jalan Semenyih.

(Note that if you continues go straight, it will lead you to KASEH highway to Seremban/Nilai, there is a toll at the entrance to KASEH. If you accidentally drive into KASEH, immediately take the Semenyih/Bangi exit or the 1st exit from the KASEH toll, basically you will come to Semenyih town after that)

After that, just follow the main road, passing a BHP station and Semenyih Kampung Baru. There is a traffic light before Semenyih Police station (check on the google map below), take a left turn to Jalan Sungai Lalang (previously called Kachau). At that traffic light, there is a mosque and school at the right hand side. After that you follow the main road until you see Nirvana Memorial park at the left hand side.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you come from North-South Highway, you could follow the direction below with minimun hassle. Take an exit to Kajang from North-South Highway, then go straight all the way, reaching Silk highway. You will have to pay two tolls in Silk Highway, then you could take an exit to Jalan Semenyih right after the 2nd toll. Otherwise, you will reach to Kajang-Semenyih bypass road, just look for Semenyih sign board to exit, you will eventually reach Jalan Semenyih as well. After that, please refer to orange color text above.
